15 years after my early “Cinq Tableaux sur Schubert” (1996) for guitar and string quartet, I was tempted to compose another piece for these instruments. The result was four movements in ‘artPop’ style - based on elements of Minimal Music, Maghreb dance and Eminem despair with a Modern-Mendelssohn “Run!” finale. I composed the works in January 2011 in Andalusia with a view of the Sierra Nevada - the underlying mood is sombre. Despite stylistic flirts with pop, existential issues like entrapment, liberation and death are addressed.
